First published in Chorley

A painting by internationally collected Irish artist Philip Gray has been auctioned at an art gallery in Heskin, raising £1,700 for St Catherine’s Hospice.

Philip Gray, whose works are collected by former US President’s George Bush and Bill Clinton, visited the Hepplestone Fine Art Gallery and invited a range of art buyers to make their mark on his canvas before turning the piece into one of his trademark pastel paintings.

The finished painting was then opened up to bids in aid of St Catherine’s hospice, which with local collectors Mr and Mrs Steve Bonney being the eventual lucky winners.

Gallery owner Giles Hepplestone said: “It is a great honour to have artists of Philip’s calibre visit the gallery and to combine it with raising money for such a worthy cause was an amazing opportunity not to be missed.”
