Chorley is top for recyling

Nearly half of all rubbish collected in Chorley is being recycled, composted or reused rather than dumped in landfill sites.

According to recent figures, the borough has the best recycling rate in Lancashire with 48.83 per cent.

Last year more than 20,000 tonnes of household waste was recycled or composted.

Residents in the Chorley area sorted and recycled 8,200 tonnes of waste from their blue bin.

Plastic bottles, along with cans, glass jars and bottles account for 5,500 tonnes, newspapers and magazines from the inner caddies make up the other 2,700 tonnes.
