Cheers to new look Chorley pub
4:00pm Thursday 31st January 2013 in Chorley
Staff and regulars from a Chorley pub gathered to celebrate its new look after it won a competition for independent pubs.
The Potters Arms, on Brooke Street, won a £2,000 business boosting makeover after triumphing in the ‘Paint and a Pint’ competition set up by paint firm Glidden Trade.
Locals were invited to join in the celebrations and be the first to see the pub’s dramatic transformation.
During the re-opening party, customers were treated to live music and a raffle to win free drinks.
Competition judges selected The Potters for one of the top prizes due to the pub owners’ sense of fun and community spirit. Denise Potter, owner of The Potters Arms, said: “While we were away on holiday our customers took it upon themselves to paint the outside of the pub purple with pink spots.
“While the exterior helped the pub to become a bit of a local landmark, the interior didn’t look so appealing so we decided to enter the competition to give the pub a boost. We couldn’t believe it when we were announced the winners.”
To win the contest, Denise simply submitted images of the pub, as well as a plea stating why it deserved to win.
The top prize included colour and paint advice and a complete interior makeover using paint from the brand.
Reflecting on her win, Denise added: “The pub now looks so much brighter and welcoming and we are really pleased with the finished result.
“The party was a great way for us to show off the pub’s new image.”
