A woman got rather more than she bargained for when she placed her Christmas turkey order – she won a brand new car with all the trimmings.

Margaret Fairhurst, of Southlands Avenue, Standish, was the lucky recipient of a Nissan Micra provided by Chorley Nissan after scooping the top prize in a Christmas raffle run by Noel Chadwick’s butchers. The 63-year-old could barely believe her luck when she was handed the keys to the car on Christmas Eve.

Chadwicks came up with the idea for the raffle as a way of boosting trade.

Margaret said: “It was a lovely surprise, especially so close to Christmas.”

John Chadwick, head of Chadwicks’ family-run butchers in Standish, said: “We’ve had a challenging couple of years so this was our way of fighting back. We came up with the idea for the raffle as a way of attracting customers and it certainly seemed to work – on average we got an extra 150 customers coming through the doors in the run up to Christmas, so it was definitely worthwhile.”

Gary Lamb, of Chorley Nissan, who supplied the car, added: “Hats off to John and his team for coming up with such a novel idea.
