A big thank you to all our readers
4:50pm Wednesday 2nd January 2013 in Chorley
The coming year will be a little happier for local families affected by domestic violence – thanks to the Citizen’s Tins and Toys Appeal and our generous readers.
Once again, The Citizen teamed up with Co-operative Travel on Chapel Street who acted as a collection point and more than 25 large boxes were filled with donations from generous readers, local businesses and community groups.
The donations will be distributed by Chorley Women’s Refuge not just for Christmas but throughout 2013 to victims of domestic violence and their children who find themselves with nowhere else to turn.
The public donations of brand new goods included toys, tins, toiletries and clothes. Acting refuge manager of Chorley and Preston Refuges, Clare Hunter, said: “On behalf of Chorley Women's Refuge I would like to say a big thank you to all those people who have donated gifts to our women and children.
“For most people Christmas can be a happy time but for some people and especially those fleeing domestic violence and residing in the refuges this can be a very sad and lonely time.
“Our women and children may be isolated from their families or they may have had to move miles away from their families and friends due to domestic abuse.
“By donating that extra gift or that unwanted gift you have helped to bring a smile to the women and children's faces this Christmas and into 2013.”
