Adlington health walk steps up to the mark
1:38pm Monday 24th January 2011 in Adlington
A new weekly health walk launched just this month is already proving popular with walkers.
The new Find Your Feet Health Walk takes in the countryside round Adlington setting off from Jubilee Playing Fields.
It is the fourth weekly health walk set up in the area with more than 100 people regularly walking each week and 12 participants trained up as walk leaders.
The new Adlington walk takes in two routes suitable for all abilities – one is three miles and covers more challenging terrain, and the other is two miles, all on the flat, with no steps or stiles and will take in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath and surrounding countryside.
There is a refreshment stop at the end of the walk.
Councillor John Walker who champions healthy activities at Chorley Council said: “I’m pleased the new Adlington walk is proving popular, it was started up because of the demand from the walkers themselves, so it is good they are taking advantage of it.
“The walks are officially recognised by health professionals as purposeful brisk walks designed to improve your fitness and keep you healthy.
“They are ideal for people who want to increase their levels of physical activity, especially if recommended to do so by their GP.”
The Adlington Walk takes place every Tuesday, meeting at Jubliee Playing Fields, Park Road at 10am and returning at 11am.
Other walks take begin are The Tatton Canal Walk - held every Monday starting at 1pm at Tatton Community Centre, the Astley Park Walk - every Wednesday, meeting outside Astley Hall at 10.30am and the Yarrow Valley Country Park Walk - every Thursday, meeting at the Visitor Centre off Birkacre Road at 10am.
