Children from Adlington can now enjoy a new play area that they helped design.

The £95,000 play area, outside Adlington’s Fairview Youth and Community centre provides a state-of-the-art play area incorporating many of the ideas on the youngsters’ wish list.

Children from St Paul’s Nursery, Adlington Primary and Anderton St Joseph’s joined councillors, officers and members of the Fairview Youth and Community Association for a ribbon cutting ceremony to declare the play area open.

The youngsters had been involved in the design of the area, which is aimed at children aged between two and 12 years.

School council representatives then compiled a list of the top ten and this information was used to draw up a design brief. Companies were then invited to tender and from a short list of six designs, the children were then asked to vote for their favourite.

There is now a variety of play equipment including swings, a roundabout, climbing frames and a sensory area.

Councillor John Walker, who oversees play facilities for Chorley Council said: “This is a fantastic new play area for the children of Adlington which I’m sure they will thoroughly enjoy playing on because they helped design it.

“The youngsters came up with a wish list of activities they would like to do and equipment to play on and from that this brand new facility was created.

“I’m sure they will have many happy hours of play over the coming years.”
