Caring Saz gets lippy for charity

A Chorley woman is proving that gender is no barrier in raising male cancer awareness by sporting a moustache throughout November.

Saz Draper, 21 from Chapel Street, Adlington is taking part in Movember, when thousands of men, and Saz, grow a ‘tash’ for 30 days to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer.

Saz, who works at Debt Free Direct in Adlington and The Imperial pub, Union Street, Chorley, will wear the drawn on moustache all through the month after being inspired to join in the campaign.

She said: “I decided to do it because most of the men in my office are growing theirs for Movember and I wanted to get involved but for obvious reasons I can't actually grow one.

“There's so much publicity for charities who do brilliant work for breast cancer awareness and I think women will go straight to their doctor if they find anything unusual, but it's a bit different with prostate cancer and I don't think men tend to be quite so quick to report problems due to embarrassment or pride.

“People close to me have suffered from the condition so obviously there's a personal interest too.”

She added: “At the pub customers seem to just find it funny, but I've had quite a good reaction and a lot of people have sponsored me.

“All the girls at work think I'm mad but the lads just seem a bit jealous that they have to actually grow one.

“It is embarrassing when I'm walking to work in the morning, people on their way to work and school give me slightly funny looks.”

Saz’s boyfriend, Brett Anton, has also leant his support.

“He has sponsored me and actually seems to think I don't look too bad even with a moustache. I even wore it when we went to a Graham Coxon concert in Manchester last week,” said Saz.
