Hundreds of flowers will be blooming in Chorley after schoolchildren swapped their pens and pencils for trowels and bedding plants.
Youngsters took time out from their classrooms to help Chorley Council brighten flowerbeds close to their schools.
Pupils at St Paul’s Primary School, in Adlington, combined a history lesson with the outdoors as year three children planted beds around the war memorial with bright bizzie lizzies.
Coun Eric Bell, Chorley Council’s Executive member for neighbourhoods, said it was great to see so many young people helping to make Chorley bloom this summer.
“The borough is already blooming with thousands of colourful flowers and we are delighted to involve schoolchildren and community groups with our planting.
“We have put a lot of effort into making the borough look attractive and help keep Chorley smiling. We’ve included some new planting schemes including the baskets along the centre of the bypass which have been well received.”
On Friday, children from Buckshaw Primary School helped to plant the raised flowerbeds in Astley Village.
