A new Adlington convenience store has celebrated its launch in the company of Chorley FC, and made a donation to the club’s chosen charity, Mencap.
Magpies boss Garry Flitcroft and club captain Andy Teague were the guests of honour when the new Tesco Express store, on Chorley Road, recently opened.
They were joined by Lionel Barker from Chorley and District Mencap, who cut a ribbon to declare the new store on the site of the former Ridgeway Arms officially open.
As part of the opening celebrations, store manager, Wendy Simm and her team presented Lionel with a cheque for £500.
The store chose to donate to Mencap as part of its commitment to supporting the local community. Chorley FC have supported Mencap throughout their league-winning season, including wearing a bright yellow third kit emblazoned with the charity’s logo and holding a ‘Mencap Day’ during a recent home game with Worksop Town.
Lionel said: “It’s been great to spend the morning with Wendy and her team and we would like to thank Tesco for this kind donation, as well as the continued support of Chorley FC.
“Support from donations like this really help to make a difference to those in Chorley, Adlington and beyond, who have learning difficulties, and give them the best possible opportunities in life.”
Wendy added: “We are really enjoying meeting our new customers and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community.”
