Chorley Citizen: The pals memorial in Chorley The pals memorial in Chorley

Pupils from Euxton St Mary’s Catholic Primary School visited Astley Hall as part of a project to research the school’s history to commemorate its Golden Jubilee in 2015.

The children were excited to discover records about former teacher Susannah Knight. Susannah was a local school teacher who taught some of the Chorley Pals French in 1914-1915.

She also wrote the Books of Remembrance known as the “Golden Books”, which are available to see at Astley Hall in the town’s park. St Mary’s deputy head Mrs Lee said: “The children were totally engrossed; it was simply superb, what the children have learned today would normally have taken a week to put together, they have not stopped talking about their visit since.”
