For the first time, South Ribble Borough Council will be flying a flag to mark Commonwealth Day.

At 10am on Monday, March 10, Mayor of South Ribble, Councillor Dorothy Gardner, will raise one of 500 flags to be flown at the same time across the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

The flag will be raised at the Civic Centre, West Paddock, Leyland and more than 40 pupils from Woodlea Junior and St Andrew’s Infant Schools will take part.

The children will listen to the Mayor read a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation and a message from Her Majesty the Queen.

Coun Gardner, said: “It’s even more special to be taking part in this ceremony during the same year as the Commonwealth Games.”
