The hills of Adlington and its surroundings are alive this week with the sounds and sights of nuns chanting and children singing and dancing in Adlington Music and Arts Society’s production of ‘The Sound of Music’.

This fairy tale, based on fact, charts the transformation of a feisty young postulant in the convent of Nonnberg Abbey to wife of the highly respected Captain Georg von Trapp and step-mother to his seven lively and talented children.

Her vocation is sorely tested while acting as governess to the magnificent young seven but with love, understanding and courage, she overcomes every obstacle to lead the family triumphantly to the ‘promised land’.

Arguably one of the most popular musicals ever – combining unforgettable music with a love story to stir the emotions and with the added ingredient of the von Trapp children and their fragile personalities, there is certainly something for everyone in this most enduring tale of human tenacity and love.

The Sound of Music Tuesday – Saturday : October 22 – 26 at Adlington Community Centre, Railway Road, 7.15 pm. Saturday matinee 2 pm.

Tickets are £10.00 from 07799 486 876.
