Chorley traders to help fight crime

First published in News

Retailers in Chorley are being asked to help in the fight against shoplifting as part of a new campaign.

Recent statistics show whilst crime remains low as a whole in town, shoplifting has seen a slight rise, with items including food, alcohol, clothes and DVDs being targeted.

Officers and PSCOs will now be visiting local stores to forge stronger working relationships with Chorley businesses and offer crime prevention advice.

Police are pushing the message that all shoplifting should be reported, no matter the value of items targeted, in order to avoid repeated offences.

Sgt Al McMiken, said: “It is essential that all retailers get involved with the campaign and always remember to report any attempted or actual stealing – failure to do so will encourage the shoplifter to come back to do it again.”
