work is well underway on Buckshaw Village’s first healthcare centre.

Since building work began back in January, residents of Buckshaw Village have seen a flurry of activity raise the centre’s steel skeleton up above the boarded perimeter of the construction site.

Set to open its doors in December, the centre will become the permanent home for Buckshaw Village Surgery which is currently based at The Lodge in Buckshaw Retirement Village.

Principal GP Dr Nimal Muttucumaru said: “It is very exciting to see the building work progress so quickly and I am really looking forward to moving into the state of the art surgery. This will allow my surgery to offer a wider range of healthcare to residents of Buckshaw Village.”

Covering more than 1,255m2 of space, over two floors, the centre will offer health and social care services for up to 10,000 people.

Lindsay Hoyle, MP for Chorley said: “I am delighted to have been involved with Buckshaw Village surgery over the last few years.

“The temporary surgery is fantastic but simply isn’t big enough, so I know that local residents and Dr Muttucumaru will be very pleased with their new purpose built surgery.”

Dr Gora Bangi, Chorley and South Ribble clinical commissioning group chairman, said: “We look forward to the completion of the permanent centre, which will provide even better access to health services for local people.”

Local company Eric Wright Construction are building the new surgery.
