Three businesses and 25 new jobs have been created in Chorley town centre in the past six months.
The new shops, a café, furniture shop and clothes shop, have all benefited from the council’s town centre grant scheme which was launched last July.
Nine grants have been approved in total, generating £114,000 of investment from local businesses in the town centre, and creating the new jobs.
Chorley Council is now advising budding entrepreneurs, who may be inspired by the new year, that they could be eligible for grant funding if they set up in Chorley.
Councillor Alan Cullens, who oversees business support at Chorley Council, said: “One of the council’s priorities has been to help local traders and attract new businesses to the town centre and the grants have been an undoubted success.
"We always tend to see an increase in the number of people wanting to set up their own business in the New Year as people seek a fresh start and we’ve had lots of enquiries since the start of January."
The grants cover shop floor and shop front improvements as well as business rate subsidies.
Under the scheme, businesses can apply for 50 per cent of the cost of improving their shop front, up to £10,000, and the full cost of refurbishing their shop floor, up to £3,000.
There’s also a business rate subsidy and advice offered. For details, visit Chorley Council’s one stop shop in Union Street, email contact@chorley.gov.uk or call 01257 515300.
