Absent churchgoers are being encouraged back to the pews as St Laurence's Church participates in a nationwide initiative called Back to Church Sunday.

Over the past few weeks members of the congregation have been given invitation cards to take to family, neighbours and friends who have fallen out of the habit of attending church.

Rector John Cree said: "St Laurence's is already a well attended church but there is always room to squeeze more into our pews.

"The services on Sunday will simply follow the normal pattern."
