A FOOTBALL hooligan from Chorley has been given a six-year banning order and a suspended six-month jail sentence for running riot in Manchester City centre.
David Annette, 35, of Yarrow Road, was one of 12 men sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Friday for their part in chaotic scenes during the UEFA Cup Final disorder of May 2008.
GMP’s Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “The sentences act as a timely reminder that anyone caught causing football-related trouble on the streets of Manchester can expect a robust sentence and to be banned from attending matches.”
About 150,000 Rangers fans travelled to Manchester for the Glasgow club’s match with Zenit St Petersberg held at the City of Manchester Stadium, but trouble flared when big screens failed before kick-off.
