THIRTY people from Chorley are being offered the once in a lifetime to play a part in the London 2012 Olympics.
Chorley Council has joined forces with Sport for Life to offer locals the chance to become one of 70,000 volunteers needed for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are 30 places available for both the young and old who are not in work or education, on the two 10-week courses to be held at Chorley Community Centre starting next month.
The 16 to 19 year olds will attend each Thursday, September 16 to November 25, and the over 20s will meet every Friday, September 17 to November 26.
As part of the national scheme Personal Best, successful entrants will also be able to gain a recognised qualification in event volunteering.
Councillor John Walker, the executive member for people, said: “Chorley is the first place in the North West to offer not just a course for young people aged 16 to 19 who are not in work, education or training, but also one for the over 20s, which includes retired people, who are not in receipt of any earnings.”
Those taking part will also recieve a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification.
