A Chorley takeaway has been closed down after public health officials discovered an infestation of cockroaches.
Environmental officers, acting after a complaint from a customer, banned Flamingos fast food takeaway on Chapel Street from trading after visiting the premises.
Chorley council staff inspected the takeaway, which sells kebabs, pizzas and burgers on July 13 and immediately imposed an emergency notice banning the sale of food for three days.
Chorley Magistrates then imposed a closure order, meaning the shop cannot open until inspectors are satisfied there is no longer a risk to public health.
It was the first time such action has been taken to close a takeaway in the borough since 2003.
Councillor Eric Bell, the council’s executive member for places, said: “We went along to check and immediately found there was a problem.
“We will always take swift action if we fell that people’s health is threatened.”
A council spokesman added that officers were working with the takeaway owners to advise on improvements which could eradicate the problem and allow them to reopen.
