Police have discovered one of Chorley’s biggest hauls of illegal drugs during a raid on a quiet, residential area of Euxton.
When police raided the address on Carnoustie Drive last week they found 568 cannabis plants being cultivated throughout the property.
If converted into dried cannabis bush, police estimate the value of the haul would be around £20,000.
Neighbourhood officers conducted the raid, which was instigated after a member of the public alerted the police with their suspicions.
Sgt Sonia Spencer, of Chorley’s neighbourhood policing team, said a warrant was executed on the strength of information passed on to them.
She added: “A neighbour had noticed that blinds and curtains were always closed and there was occasionally a tell-tale smell coming from the house.
“Only limited visits were made to the property for a relatively short time and there were also several empty bags of compost strewn in the garden.”
When officers entered the property they discovered around 350 adult plants and a highly developed hydroponic cultivation system to aid growth.
The sophistication of the system was such that a utility company had to be called in because the property’s wiring had been diverted from external lights.
Nobody was present at the house when police raided but subsequently a local man attended Chorley police station voluntarily where he was interviewed under caution.
He has been released on police bail as investigations continue.
