A PENSIONER died after falling and breaking his leg while out on his daily walk, an inquest heard.

Renee Brown, of Oozle Rock, Roughlee, died on May 1 -- a fortnight before his 90th birthday.

He told neighbour Brian Anderson he had gone dizzy and blacked out, falling into the road in Stang Top Road on April 24, a few hundred yards from where he lived.

Mr Brown was described as very active and walked his dog up the road up to four times a day -- though he had suffered previous falls.

He was found by two youths who called his wife and Mr Anderson who went to his aid and took him to hospital.

An operation to set the fracture was a success but Mr Brown suffered a blood clot, not caused by the operation, which caused his death.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Richard Taylor said: "The operation was technically successful, however, he died from the pulmonary embolism as a result of the fracture rather than the operation."
