Shaun Teale's new look Chorley side got off to the best possible start when they cruised to a 3-0 home victory against Ossett Albion.

The victory came just days after Teale was forced to off-load four players following cuts to his playing budget partly due to low attendances at Victory Park this season.

Departing players included experienced striker Gary Martindale who netted only five goals for Chorley in his 23 appearances, four of them in his first three outings at the start of the season.

The others were defender James Price and midfield men Antony Bowden, who has joined Runcorn FC Halton, and Tony Sullivan who looks set to return to Lancaster City.

Price, who came back to Chorley in October last year after five years with Radcliffe Borough, made 23 appearances this term, while Bowden, who arrived in the close season after service with Accrington Stanley and Marine, had 22 starts and scored one goal. Teale said: "I was sorry to have had to make these economies, including cutting the wages of Ray Stafford and myself, but these things happen. We are grateful to the four who have left for their contribution here.

"At least openings have been provided for our young players to stake their claims and show us what they can do at UniBond level."

With Chris McGrath and Jamie Squires leaving the club in the first round of cost cutting two weeks ago it has given reserve team players the chance to shine.

One of those is striker Adam Roscoe who impressed up front on Saturday following a two-goal performance in the Reserves' 3-1 win over Bamber Bridge last week. He had earlier scored four first-team goals in a handful of senior outings and it was after he was brought down by the Ossett keeper that Jamie Vermiglio cracked home his third from the penalty spot.

Teale has also brought in former Sheffield United and Rochdale midfielder Graham Tench on loan from Leigh RMI who was man of the match award for the Ossett game.

They face a stern test on Saturday when they visit Stocksbridge which will be a good test for Shaun Teale's new-look Magpies after four home league games.
