ACCRINGTON have signed Indian all-rounder Nishit Shetty as their professional for 2006.

The 32-year-old left-arm spinner replaces Tama Canning who spent four of the last five seasons at the club.

Shetty joins the Thorneyholme Road side from Bolton League outfit Greenmount, where he scored 981 runs and took 57 wickets last season.

Accrington chairman Rod Kenyon said: "He came very highly recommended to us by both Murali Kartik (Ramsbottom's professional) and Graham Lloyd.

"Graham played against him for Bootle at Old Trafford and said that he was hard to play against, both when batting or bowling.

"Last season, we were out-proed in a lot of games but we have some very capable amatuers but with the addition of David Ormerod and now Nishit there's no reason why we can't finish halfway up the league next season.

l Accrington are on the look out for a new scorer following the retirement of Lionel Cooke. Contact Rod on 01254 387864 for more details.
