DANIEL Boardman's reward for a trouble-free debut run in the Innovation Motorsports Peugeot 206 was an excellent third in class on the Grizedale Stages.

Scholarship winner Boardman, 26, used the Lake District event as a 'shakedown' prior to next year's bid for the Peugeot 206 1400 Challenge.

"It was a great day and a steep learning curve," said the Ribchester driver, who finished 44th overall.

"It took a while to get used to the six-speed gearbox but we got it together after the first two stages."

Boardman was partnered by experienced mapman Chris Campbell, from Nelson, as a one-off as next year's co-driver Yolandie Walsh, from Rishton, is still undergoing training.

He added: "I'd like to say thanks to Innovation Motorsports, Autobreakers and Lancashire Salvage for their support and to all the team and every one involved making the day run like clockwork."

The event was won by Junior World Rally Championship front-runner Guy Wilks, who beat pre-rally favourite Paul Bird by just over a minute.
