AKZO Nobel, Darwen, has been praised by a paints industry association for improving health and safety and environmental performance.
The firm, which manufactures decorative coatings, was named winner of the British Coating Federation's Coatings Care scheme for 2005.
Akzo Nobel, which employs 800, was praised after it installed a new effluent plant which reduces the water consumed by 75per cent.
