A DRUNKARD who put up a fight when police tried to arrest him was given a helping hand to address some of his problems.
Ex-heroin addict William Bridge, 29, made threats and struggled as the officer tried to handcuff him.
The defendant had been on curfew but claimed his dog chewed his tag when he was drunk, Burnley magistrates heard.
Bridge, a former chef at an Italian restaurant in Rawtenstall, admitted police obstruction and breaching a curfew order.
The defendant, of Edgeside Lane, Waterfoot, was given a community order with 12 months supervision, the Think First programme and a nine-month drug rehab-ilitation requirement. Chairman Neil Tranter told him it was hoped the order would help with his problems.
Philip Turner, defending, said the offence was not premeditated. He said Bridge was on a blocker for his drug problems.
