TYLDESLEY'S biggest store is up for sale.
Supermarket giants Somerfield this week confirmed the Shuttle Street superstore is among those on offer in a multi-million pound sell-off.
A Somerfield spokesman said: "We have had lots of interest. It will appeal to a wide range of retailers."
The Bristol-based company's Tyldesley store is at 17,000 square feet among its six biggest in a nationwide chain of 1,400 stores bearing the Somerfield and Kwik Save names.
It also aims to sell its Kwik Save stores in Leigh, Atherton and Hindley Green as part of strategic plans to concentrate on top-up convenience type stores.
The company aims to shed most of its 350 Kwik Save branches and 140 of its Somerfield superstores.
But the company stresses it wants to sell them as going concerns and would prefer to sell the Tyldesley store - which opened last year on Caleb Wright's mill site - to a food retailer to safeguard jobs.
The Ladies Lane Kwik Save outlet in Hindley will remain under Somerfield control as the company reacts to a supermarket price war.
The company hopes to net over £200m from the sell-offs.
