GREEN field saviours are preparing to dig-in to fight housing plans
On Sunday top Eco warriors including Manchester Airport protesters Fungus, the naked treetop lady (pictured on the right of our protest line-up) tunnel champ Colne Pete, Manchester Greens' leader Vanessa Hall and No-Xanadu campaigner Chris Maile were in Hindley Green.
They advised an estimated 100 locals at an eco-awareness day on the 'Village Green' site - on land off Carr Common Road earmarked by Wigan Council for a new housing estate.
A High Court appeal has been lodged against the Council's decision to grant outline planning permission for its own proposal to develop Belvedere Farm which had 1,000 letters of objection.
WASP, Wildlife and Social Preservation on the Green, have vowed to challenge the proposed development to the end.
Jugglers and stilt walkers joined weekend protest, where advice was given on protest techniques, safe tree climbing.
Chris Maile told The Journal: "People are prepared to dig-in if it comes to it, they are so riled.
"But the legal challenge has an excellent chance of success."
