BURNLEY-born Malcolm Robinson has become one of the first people to be televised receiving his MBE from the Queen.
Mr Robinson, 51, of Gayton, Northampton, was awarded the MBE for services to Northampton Grammar School.
He was responsible for founding the independent boys' school which now has 250 pupils.
Mr Robinson said: "I am just a Burnley lad who attended Barden junior school in Abel Street and then went to Towneley."
He moved with his family to Blackpool at the age of 14 and after studying at Edinburgh and Leeds began a teaching career at a number of comprehensive schools.
He is now a lecturer at University College, Northampton and patron of the Grammar School. He said: "I shall be receiving a video recording of the ceremony. Going to Buckingham Palace is a bit like going to the moon, today is a big come down back to reality."
Mr Robinson is married with two sons.
