FRONTLINE staff at Blackburn with Darwen Council put their best feet forward while training for a management award.

Twelve men from the borough's direct services department took part in the Stepping Out scheme, a personal development programme leading to a supervisory management introductory award.

The programme involved attending eight workshops and four work based assignments as well as developing six personal development records.

The men received their certificates from the direct services director Peter Hunt. In addition, apprentice plumber Paul Croasdale received his student of the year award after coming top of his course at Accrington and Rossendale College.

And Alan Kenyon, who recently retired as Blackburn with Darwen Council's amenities department senior supervisor, was presented with a long service award from the Royal Horticultural Society after 42 years service with the authority.
