DEALS are the name of the game at the moment down at Stainton Park, with both player signings and a ground sponsorship agreement bubbling.

After Westec re-signed for another season as Radcliffe Boroughs shirt sponsors, progress is now being made on securing further funds through a ground sponsorship arrangement.

One company in particular is deep in negotiation with the club regarding a five-figure, three year arrangement that would see Stainton Park renamed along the lines of the "Acme" Stadium.

Meanwhile, on the player front the club had a cheeky bid for former hero Jody Banim turned down by Droylsden.

"It's no secret we would like a third striker to compete with Steve Foster and Ciaran Kilheeney for the two forward slots, said Boro boss, Kevin Glendon.

"We all know what Jody can do so we thought we'd test the water but we were turned away - this time."

And Glendon knows whimself turned down a £4,000-plus-player approach from Ashton United for Foster this week.

"Steve was the division's top scorer last season and he's only 23, so we really want to hang onto him because we think he has the potential to be top scorer in whatever division we are playing."

However, one player Glendon is going to have a closer look at is attacking midfielder Bernard Morley, who has parted company with North West Counties First Division side, Ramsbottom United.

Morley, who put in some impressive performances for the Rams last season, will join Boro for pre-season training and the club's warm-up games to show what he can do.
