Two Preston women are hoping a new way of meeting people will be a hit.

Amisha Nayee, an IMT analyst and Habiba Adam, a support co-ordinater for a Housing Association are planning an Asian speed dating event in the city for professional people.

It is hoped the idea which has become very successful in the major cities will prove just as successful in Lancashire.

Amisha said, "Mauka's Asian Speed Dating Service is primarily targeted at professionals from the Asian community. Having spoken to people about it the general consensus is that it is a good way to meet other like-minded people.

"We are looking for people aged between 23 and 33 and with the ticket price we hope to attract the right sort of crowd.

"It is so difficult to meet people from certain backgrounds and we hope that through an event like it will make life easier."

This will be the first Asian Speed Dating Event to take place in Lancashire with authentic Indian cuisine served. Organisers hope to accommodate special dietary requirements such as halal or vegetarian food on request.

Non-daters are also welcome to accompany daters to the event. The event will be divided into two categories - Muslim Speed Dating and Hindu/Sikh Speed Dating.

"Speed Dating helps to accelerate the sometimes difficult process of breaking the ice. In one evening you can meet thirty or so like minded professionals of the same religion and culture, in individual fun-packed dates lasting 3-5 minutes."

"Each person participating in the event will be required to wear a name badge and will be given a compatibility card." added Habiba

"If at the end of the event any members results are mutually positive, then their first name and email addresses will be forwarded by Mauka to these individuals within 48 hours."

The event will take place on Sunday 21 August at The Strand and to participate you can call 08700 600100 or log on to www.ticketweb.co.uk.
