A BLACKBURN woman died after she lost control of her car and collided with another vehicle.
Munaza Nadeem Hanif, 48, was on her way to work in Bolton when the accident happened in the Abbey Village and Belmont area at 8.30am yesterday.
Police said she was driving along the A675 Bolton Road when she lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing into a white Mini Cooper which was heading towards Blackburn.
Munaza was pronounced dead at the scene. Her funeral will take place this afternoon
Munaza's brother, Atiq Hanif, 47, said: "Munaza was a loving daughter and Aunt, an affectionate sister and was dear to all who knew her."
Ms Hanif was a legal executive at Fieldings Porter solicitors based in Bolton.
Edward Nally, senior partner at Fieldings Porter, paid tribute to Ms Hanif. He said: “We are absolutely devastated by the news.
“Munaza had worked for the company for many years and she was a wonderful and highly respected friend and colleague.
“We just cannot believe that she has been taken away from her friends and family in such tragic circumstances.
“She was due into the office and unusually did not turn up, so we were not sure what had happened.
"We found out when the police contacted us.
“She was a legal executive with about 20 years’ experience. She worked in our housing department.”
Officers have ruled out yesterday’s bad weather as the cause of the accident.
The driver of the Mini, a woman in her early 20s, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with hip and leg injuries.
Police said she was released from hospital yesterday afternoon after receiving treatment.
The road was closed following the crash and reopened at noon once accident investigations had been completed and the cars removed.
The stretch of road has been the scene of many serious accidents and fatalities.
n 2005, extra road safety improvements were approved after the road was dubbed 'one of the most dangerous roads in the country'.
Two years later three accidents in one week alone took place, leaving one teenage girl dead, a woman in her 20s seriously injured and a teacher lucky to be alive.
During the previous 10 years there have been three fatalities and accidents leading to 14 serious injuries and 17 minor injuries.
Ward councillor Christopher France said: “A lot of people have concerns about the road. It is a very, very dangerous road.”
Sergeant Mick Young, who is leading the investigation into the crash, said: “We are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who witnessed the accident to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 125 3545.
