ATHLETE and England sporting champion Lisa Daley was the guest of honour at this year’s SPAR Lancashire Disability Youth Games, held on Tuesday, June 30.
There was success for Chorley youngsters with Astley Park School winners of the curling competition.
A short shower did not dampen the sporting spirit as around 410 school children from across Lancashire competed in the event at Stanley Park Athletics Arena in Blackpool.
Lisa Daley, a silver medallist in the European Championships and World Youth silver medallist in the 300m and 60m track events, officially opened the Games and presented the youngsters with their medals.
Mayors and mayoresses from across the county also attended to cheer on their local teams, along with senior representatives from Lancashire Sport Partnership, and the event’s sponsors for the third year running, James Hall & Company Ltd, SPAR distributor for the North of England.
The event saw 56 teams from 20 special schools compete in athletics, boccia, football, new age curling and sensory orienteering events.
