New register office opens in Chorley

1:39pm Friday 3rd July 2009

Chorley's newly built register office is set to open its doors on Monday.

The £750,000 purpose-built development off Devonshire Road, will provide a fully accessible wedding, civil partnership and registration facility for the borough's people.

The new-look register office replaces the current out-dated building in St George’s Street and has been designed to include a larger ceremony room catering for up to 65 people.

It is also fully accessible to meet the needs of disabled people and those with mobility problems.

The all ground floor building also includes separate entrances and waiting areas for customers registering events and those attending ceremonies.

Steve Lloyd, registration services manager for Lancashire County Council said: "I think it is really important that the people of Chorley and surrounding areas have an accessible building to provide services at important times in their lives.

"I am sure people will be impressed with their new facilities, particularly the ceremony room and small garden.

"I am really pleased with the result; this is an excellent example of the service, Lancashire County Council Property Group, who designed the new facility, and Conlon Construction Ltd, who were appointed to develop the building, working together and enabling this project to come to fruition."

The service will be open from Monday for registering births and deaths; marriage and civil partnership ceremonies will be available from Monday, July 20.

To book an appointment or for information on any of its services, please contact the Lancashire County Council Registration Service on 0845 053 0021 or visit www.lancashire.gov.uk/registration.
