Police HQ to host 24 hour charity relay


Police headquarters in Hutton is to host the first Cancer Research UK Preston, Relay for Life event this weekend.

The event which includes a 24 hour walking event will take place from midnight on Saturday, (July 4th) to midnight on Sunday with a full programme of entertainment on the site to help raise as much money as possible.

The Relay for Life will begin on the Saturday with the inspiring Survivors' Lap of Honour.

Where cancer survivors walk the first lap of the course, cheered and supported by the community.

As the evening draws in, everyone gathers to light candles of hope and pay tribute to those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

Marian Orford works in the police occupational health unit and who is a member of the organising committee for the event.

She said, "A full programme of entertainment is promised for the day and it is a great opportunity for people to join a team and stay camped out for 24 hours and soak up the true atmosphere of relay, join a team and dedicate just a few hours or be a visitor and enjoy all the event has to offer, there really is something for everyone all the while raising money for a fantastic cause."
