Bag of human tissue found in Whittle-le-Woods

Police in Chorley have launched an investigation after human tissue was found in a carrier bag in Whittle-le-Woods.

The discovery was made at around 10am on Wednesday in a car park off Preston Road.

Tests have been carried out and have confirmed that the tissue is human and most likely from a birth or miscarriage.

Detective Inspector Nina Foley said: “Further examination will be carried out over the next few days to try and establish exactly what we are dealing with.

“My initial concern is that we could have someone out there who has been through a traumatic ordeal and is in need of medical attention. I would urge them to contact the police or seek medical advice.

“If you have any information which will assist this enquiry or you have concerns about a family member or friend please contact us”.

Dr Terry O’Connor, the chair of NHS Central Lancashire’s professional executive committee, said: “For someone to have lost and hidden a large amount of blood suggests that they may be emotionally and physically distressed.

"I would urge them to seek urgent help and advice from their family doctor, district nurse, health visitor or emergency department.

"They will be seen and supported in absolute confidence.”
