SIGHTINGS of a black Vauxhall could hold the key to finding the killer of a student whose body was dumped at reservoir car park.

The body of 22-year-old Bolton student Umair Waseem was found at Anglezarke reservoir, near Chorley, on Monday February 22.

He has sustained a severe head trauma and his ankles and wrists were bound with duct tape.

On Sunday 1 February, Umair had been driving around Bolton in a Silver BMW 7 Series car bearing the registration DF02 JFK.

But detectives believe the black Vauxhall Vectra, registration number KF56 CYZ, that he had hired could help them catch his killer.

At about 8.30pm on the night before he died, another man drove this car away from the Deane Road area of Bolton.

Umair remained in the BMW, which was later found parked close where his body was found.

It was later found abandoned in Crumpsall, Manchester.

Detective Superintendent Jane Antrobus, who is now leading the investigation, said: "We've been following several lines of inquiry into who killed Umair, but we still really need more information, and we know there are people out there who have the details we need to find his killers.

"For example, it is likely there were people hanging around the Anglezarke car park on the night Umair was killed.

"We urgently need you to call us if you were there.

"We will treat your call in the strictest of confidence.

"Umair was killed in an extremely violent attack and the people responsible need to be caught."

Anyone with any information about Umair's murder can contact police on 0161 856 9283 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
