The waiting is almost over as 106.5 Central Radio, the new radio station for Preston, Leyland and Chorley, takes to the airwaves on September 25 with a line up of presenters and a pledge that you’ll never hear the same song during the day.

Former Coronation Street heart throb Scott Wright has been signed up to present a regular show on the station from its Preston studios.

Scott, known to millions of Weatherfield fans as Sam Kingston, has also starred in a host of programmes including Shameless, Doctors and Emmerdale.

Breakfast show presenter Mark Keen is no stranger to the area having worked at a range of stations including Red Rose Radio and Central Radio’s sister stations within the UTV Radio group, Wish FM and talkSPORT.

He will be joined on air by Anna Woolhouse to bring listeners the news, sport, travel and weather as they make their way to work.

The new radio station is planning its official launch on Saturday, September 27, with lunchtime performances in The Mall, Preston, Market Street in Chorley and outside Tesco Extra in Leyland.

The station’s programme controller, Chris Buckley, said: “We have a great team on air at 106.5 Central Radio, with a winning mix of experience and talent.

“106.5 Central Radio has pledged ‘no repeats’ 9am to 5pm where the station guarantees never to play the same song twice and listeners will notice a strong commitment to local news and information.”

Other key appointments include Kim Shaw in the afternoon and Aaron Roscoe who will present the evening show.

Mike Baker, senior station director, said: “There is a real buzz around the launch of 106.5 Central Radio and local people have already shown a great deal of interest.

"We have a series of high profile events lined up around the launch for everyone to get involved in.”
