The campaign to erect a memorial for the Chorley Pals has received a further boost today with a pledge of £30,000 to cover the cost of the plinth.
The commitment comes shortly after the unveiling of the proposed statue with news that an anonymous donor has dedicated £65,000 towards to the construction of the statue.
With additional money pledged for a plinth work can begin on its construction with discussions taking place as to the location of the statue.
Mr Hoyle said: “The latest commitment for £30,000 means that our vision will now become a reality.
"We already have a sculpture and his sketches as to the type of memorial we are looking to erect are excellent.
"With the funding in place work can now begin both on the statue and plinth.
"The plinth will be extremely important as we will include the names of all Chorley Pals who left Chorley in 1915.
“We have begun discussions with Chorley Borough Council in relation to the location for the statue and we can now work towards the date of July 2009 for completion.
“In the meantime fundraising activities continue. There will be some running costs involved with the statue, insurance etc and we need all the money we can get.”
