A lorry crashed through the central reservation on the M6, causing disruption on the motorway.

The incident was first reported at 7.10pm this evening (Wednesday, April 24).

One lane is closed between junction 36, at Kendal, and junction 35, Carnforth and Cumbria, with one lane at northbound also closed.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West said: "New incident. M6 southbound Junction 36, Kendal, and Junction 35, Carnforth and Cumbria road closed one lane (of three, closed northbound also).

"Due to a lorry which has crossed through the central reservation. More info to follow."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We’re at the scene of a road closure on the M6 southbound carriageway between J36 and J35.

"The road is closed due to a road traffic collision and we anticipate this will be closed for some time.

"We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience."

Just before 1am on Thursday, two lanes were reopened.

National Highways North West said: "The M6 in Cumbria has re-opened southbound between J36 Kendal & J35 Carnforth following a collision.

"Lane 3 (of 3) remains closed in both directions pending emergency central reservation barrier repairs. These repairs will take place tomorrow. Thank you for your patience."
