This is a photo which will break the hearts of everyone who loves old cinemas.
It shows the once proud Odeon Cinema in Blackburn being demolished in 1974. The wrecking crew had not yet got round to pulling down the cinema’s unique domed tower which you can see on the right.
The Odeon stood on Penny Street and had originally opened in 1931 as the Rialto. In background you can see the Whitbread brewery building.
Did you used to go to the Odeon? Was the inside of the theatre as impressive as the exterior? What other 'lost' cinemas of East Lancashire do you remember? Leave a comment
