One team in East Lancashire has been revealed as the most searched for club in the EFL, while the others didn’t even make the top 10.

Following the announcement that the English Football League is considering scrapping its 3pm Saturday TV blackout, which has been in place for decades, from the 2024/25 season, research has been carried out to find which teams most people want to watch.

The data, compiled by betting website Footy Accumulators, looked at searches made for every club in the EFL to see which are top of the pile.

Two Lancashire clubs made the top 10 list but a host of others missed out, showing who the biggest clubs in the county are - according to the internet, that is.

It is rumoured Netflix, Meta (Facebook), Google, Apple and Amazon are set to be offered TV rights for EFL games, so this list is an indicator to them of which teams they need to get on their streaming services to attract the most viewers.

Top of the list came Burnley FC, with an average of 368,000 searches per month for the club, showing the Turf Moor side are the biggest and most in demand club in the Football League.

These figures could be skewed due to the fact the Clarets were a Premier League side until May as fellow relegated side Watford came joint second, but Norwich City didn’t even make the top 10.

In joint second on the list, all with an average of 301,000 searches per month, were Birmingham City, Portsmouth (the highest ranked League One team), Reading and Watford.

In joint-sixth, with 246,000 searches per month on average, were Barnsley, Lancashire side Blackpool, and Sunderland.

Luton Town were ninth, with 201,000 searches a month, and Middlesbrough rounded out the top 10 with 165,000 searches per month on average.

Blackburn Rovers failed to make the top 10, as did fellow Lancashire sides Preston North End, Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town, and Morecambe.

Footy Accumulators also looked at the clubs with the biggest growth in demand over the past 12 months, with interest growing at a rapid rate for some.

Charlton Athletic saw the highest growth in searches, increasing four-fold by 402 per cent.

Second were Hull City (123 per cent), followed by Forest Green Rovers (86 per cent), Wigan Athletic (83 per cent), Stevenage and Leyton Orient (both 50 per cent), Luton Town (49 per cent), and Middlesbrough, Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Doncaster Rovers (all 23 per cent).
