Police searching for missing 80 year old Winnifred Kellett, known by family and friends as Betty, have found a body on the disused railway line at Heapey, near Chorley.

Although the body has not been formally identified, police believe it is that of Mrs Kellett.

Her family have been informed.

Earlier today police frogmen had searched the Leeds-Liverpool Canal for the missing pensioner and continued their appeal for information.

Since she went missing from her home on Tuesday evening police carried out extensive searches using a variety of agencies including the mountain rescue, underwater search teams and the RAF search and rescue helicopter.

Mrs Kellett was last seen by her partner at their home address on Ryefield, Heapey.

She went to bed at 7pm on Tuesday and her partner last saw her when she got up to go to the toilet around midnight.

Police said Mrs Kellett suffered from memory loss and her condition had recently been deteriorating.
