Morecambe-based world champion boxer, Tyson Fury, is well-known for his eccentric style and bold suit choices.

But one look stands out from the rest – and that’s when he turned up to a press conference dressed as Batman.

Many fans will remember the 2015 moment when he went toe-to-toe Wladimir Klitschko, who was world heavyweight champion at the time, while dressed as The Caped Crusader from the DC comics.

Tyson’s suit maker has now appeared in a YouTube video, revealing that an entirely different suit was planned for the press conference.

Appearing on the talkSport Boxing YouTube channel, Tyson’s suit maker, Nav Salimian, initially prepared a smart checkered suit which he had to prepare and deliver to Morecambe in a hurry.

He said: “I didn’t know that I only had less than 18 hours to get a suit prepared and drive up to Morecambe.

“I wanted to go for something that resembled a mob boss, a Don Corleone figure with the heavy checks and bold cut waist coat.

“I drove up to Morecambe. What I wasn’t expecting was Tyson’s freakishly long arms. The sleeve length was about four inches out.

“I had 48 hours to prepare the suit and arrive at the press conference.”

Nav said the Batman costume took him by surprise.

He said: “I arrive at the press conference, hand the suit to Paris, take my seat and can’t wait to watch it all unfold.

“And then Tyson arrives as Batman – and I am thinking’ ‘where is the suit… what is happening with the outfit?”

Thankfully, the tailor’s hard work was appreciated later when Tyson changed into the initially planned suit.

Nav said he was using this suit as his “Bruce Wayne outfit” which played into his Batman joke.

Naz said: “What I wasn’t aware of was that Tyson was using my suit as his prop for his Bruce Wayne outfit.

“This suit has been made iconic by Tyson through his use of making it a prop and terrorizing Klitschko, not only as Batman, but also as Bruce Wayne as well.

“I learned a lot just by witnessing how he performed in this outfit, his playful nature, his humourous attitude – it’s the origin story of the Gyspy King to an extent.”

The tailor also opened up about some of the Gypsy King’s other iconic suits, including one that became a symbol for mental health.

This suit was covered in colourful pictures of Tyson’s head and was worn in 2020, in the lead up to the Deontay Wilder rematch.

Naz said: “It’s one of mine and the brand’s proudest moments, creating a suit that spreads a message about mental health awareness.

“There’s a very deep meaning to his face. Tyson’s legacy outside the ring will be the impact and advocacy he’s had on mental health.

“Designing this piece took a lot of time because how do you spread this message across a garment? This is what we came up with.”
