POLICE have arrested after a woman was groped and pushed to the ground as she walked home from a night out on Saturday.
Detectives had released CCTV images of a man wanted in connection with the incident which happened on Newchurch Road, Stacksteads, at 12.15am.
Police said the man initially spoke to the victim, who is in her 30s, before touching her inappropriately. As she began to walk away he grabbed her, touching her inappropriately for a second time. As she walked away again he grabbed her and pushed her to the floor. The woman began to scream and the man ran off.
Officers have now arrested a 20-year-old man from Burnley on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody this afternoon.
Det Sgt Ashley Johnston said: “The victim has been left extremely shaken by this incident.”
A police spokesman added: "We have since arrested a 20-year-old man from Burnley on suspicion of sexual assault and he remains in police custody.
"Our enquiries are on-going and anybody with information about the incident is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log 54 of October 19."
