CHILDREN have donated home metal waste to a recycling company as part of a school project.
Tudor House Day nurseries across Blackburn are working with metal recycler, EMR, to educate children on metal recycling.
The Gorse Street company has donated recycling bins to the private day nurseries in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of recycling.
The nurseries dedicated an area of the facility to recycling, focusing on metal recycling, where children will bring waste metal from their homes to be recycled by EMR.
Ben Smithson, site manager at EMR’s Blackburn depot said: “EMR recycles 10 million tonnes of metal each year, which saves 15 million tonnes of CO2 compared to using virgin ores; equivalent to the CO2 generated by 4.5 million average households each year.
“It’s important to educate everyone on the importance of recycling as our virgin resources won’t last forever and landfilling is unsustainable."
Zahir Patel, director at Tudor House Day nursery, said: “We feel it’s vitally important that our children understand the importance of recycling materials from a young age and we at Tudor House are committed to providing this learning for them in partnership with EMR.”
The recycling bins have been donated to Tudor House Day nurseries on Shear Brow, New Chapel Street, Alton Street and Hancock Street.
