A FISH and chip shop has benefitted from a £400k make-over and has scooped a national award for great food.

Janet Colclough has opened Nana Jan’s, at the former Buckshaw Fishbar on Barnes Wallis Way, to share her passion for great-tasting fish and chips.

The concept behind Nana Jan’s is to prepare the very best in high quality, traditional, quality meals like fish and chips, kebabs, burgers and sausages with a service spin – a friendly in-shop experience or a delivery service for the Buckshaw community through a new mobile app.

JanetColclough said: “People will drive past other fish and chip shops if they know they are getting quality from yours.

“I am really excited about our new venture and we have a range of exciting plans for the future. We chose Buckshaw Village for our new food concept and already we feel to be part of the community.”

Nana Jan’s has been really busy working tirelessly with the team and our suppliers to improve almost every aspect of the food.

From the fish, to the chips, to the batter to the burgers. Indeed, each and every element of the menu has been checked and improved.

From buying the shop to branding of the business £400,000 has been spent on the firm.

Last week, Nana Jan’s won a prestigious National Quality Fish Award from the National Federation of Fish Friers.

Jan said: “The response in our first weekend been tremendous and we have had a significant upturn in sales.

“We have invested heavily in the brand and we want to give our customers a great experience.”

MP Lindsay Hoyle said: “I was delighted to be asked to visit Nana Jan’s last week. Every village needs a good chippy and I’m sure Nana Jan’s #madewithlove approach to the cooking and sustainable resourcing will make it a big hit in Buckshaw.”

Janet has teamed up with Derian House Children’s Hospice and the store has chosen them as its adopted charity. Nana Jan has committed to supporting this local charity and has already started to supply occasional meals to the children, parents and siblings as an extra treat.

Mick Croskery of Derian House Children’s Hospice said: “Thank You to Nana Jan’s – the children, their families and the staff are all very appreciative of the food and the service Nana Jan is giving to us.”
