FOR some people the London Marathon is a chance to dress up and raise money for charity.

But for a Chorley mum-of-three, her family will be one of the main things spurring her around the streets of the capital.

Zoe Butler is set to go through the blood, sweat and tears of the gruelling 26.2mile course for Orchid Male Cancer.

The 42-year-old is the partner of former WBO World Welterweight title contender Michael Jennings and said it was a cause close to her heart.

She said: "I have lost two family members - Michael's uncle Tony McLoughlin and my nephew Adam Sumner to cancer in the past year.

"Adam was only 26 and died 22 days after being diagnosed with cancer - which was heartbreaking.

"I've always wanted to do the London Marathon every time I watch it on TV.

"So because of my nephew who died, it made me more determined to get in. I didn't get in on the ballot and I was heartbroken so I got in contact with Orchid Male Cancer."

Zoe admits she has been working hard and is being driven on to cross the finishing line.

She said: "The training has gone really well, the hardest part of it was seeing how far I could run without stopping.

"And also getting my breathing and mind spot on.

"I'm very excited and I've no game plan I just want to finish and get that medal round my neck.

"This week I have been eating well, resting well and then two small runs - I have done one.

"It was emotional doing the small run and I was getting a little upset but now I'm so excited.

"Mick and my three kids will be cheering me on and I just keep saying make sure you are near the finish line. I think I'll be a blubbering mess when I see them."

The school welfare assistant had set a target of £1,900 for charity but has so far raised £2,100 with a set of signed boxing gloves raising £350.

Zoe added: "I want to thank my family and friends for their support.

"Sarah Walton has also been so helpful with her advice I'd also liked to thank Premier shop next to the Seven Stars as he's put a charity tub in for me ... the biggest thanks of all goes to Mick and my kids Mikey, Jack and Macy."
